Pembroke, May 22, 2009 - The The Renfrew County Courthouse is the distinguished recipient of the Ontario Association of Architects 2009 People's Choice Award.

In an online competition, you really pulled through to show your community spirit, giving the Courthouse the most votes.

The Renfrew County Courthouse, considered one of the finest courthouses in the country when built in 1866, is a point of pride once again. One of 14 buildings chosen by a jury from the Ontario Association of Architects (OAA) for design excellence, the Renfrew County Courthouse Renovation and Addition was designed by NORR Limited.

The courthouse renovation and addition consolidated the Superior and Ontario Courts of Justice from four locations into one municipally-owned national heritage courthouse and registry office building. The City of Pembroke was thrilled that this magnificent structure was restored to its historic prominence, and clearly, so were its citizens.

The OAA jury chose the nominees and you picked the winner. The People's Choice award and the OAA award for design excellence were presented by OAA President Gerrie Doyle to NORR's design architect, David Clusiau, and representatives of the Ontario Realty Corporation and the Ministry of the Attorney General at the OAA's recent awards dinner.
